Manufacturing Processes

Private-Label Manufacturing

Private-label manufacturing means a supplier produces a product you sell under your own brand. The commercial terms — minimums, ownership of the specification, exclusivity and labeling responsibility — matter as much as the manufacturing capability.

Own your specification

Be clear about whether you are buying a supplier's existing product with your label on it, or a specification you own and can move. Both are legitimate; they lead to very different negotiating positions later.

  • Existing catalog product relabeled for your brand
  • Modified version of a supplier's base product
  • Fully custom specification you own
  • Exclusivity or category restrictions, where offered

Minimums, tooling and artwork

Ask for the minimum order quantity per SKU, any tooling or plate charges, artwork file requirements and who is responsible for label content accuracy and regulatory claims.

Quality and continuity

Agree acceptance criteria, sampling and what happens to non-conforming lots. Confirm how much notice you get on formulation, component or process changes.
